This summer I went back to Burma for the first time in 10 years. I spent almost three months in Myitkyina, Kachin State, teaching English at Kachin Theological College. It felt so good to speak Kachin and to help the Kachin community I love so much.
Kachin Theological College located in Nawng Nang village, which is 10 miles north of Myitkyina, the capital city of Kachin State in Myanmar.
My sister and I co-taught six classes: about 200 students in total.
With some of our students in front of a traditional Kachin house at Myitsone.
Sadung, a village east of Myitkyina.
Myitsone, the location of the controversial dam construction, which is currently suspended.
With my littile sister at Sangrila, a popular destination for local excursions.
Shwedagon pagoda: the last place I visited in Yangon before I left for America, and the first place I visited when I came back from America.
