We held a photo exhibition titled “The Real Myanmar” in Yale’s Trumbull Gallery, with the aim of raising awareness about Myanmar through a series of photographs taken by four of our members—Korn, Edward, Becca and Eli—as well as Berkeley College writing tutor Cathy Shufro. Given the recent attention surrounding the country’s new civilian-led government, we wanted to present a different side of the country from that which is often presented by the media, moving beyond the oft-documented political conflicts to focus on scenes of everyday, local life.
The exhibition ran from February 28 to March 7 and the turnout for the opening reception exceeded expectations, with 50-70 people crowding into the gallery to view our photos and enjoy samosas and hot milk tea. Read the YDN’s coverage of the event here!
